Top 5 tips for making a short film

Top 5 tips for making a short film

By roemer122 | Video | 0 comment | 15 August, 2015 | 0

Creating a short movie might seem like an easier thing to do when compared to the longer and more comprehensive movies but this can also be a pain for sure. With that in mind, we created a set of tips that you can use in order to get the best experience and results while doing a shorter feature film.

Find the best shooting locations

This is the best thing to keep in mind because the more relevant the shooting locations are, the more authentic the short movie will be. This is especially true if you want to focus on the history of a place or you just want the short movie to have a more authentic feel. A good set of locations can do wonders for the film and it’s just an amazing experience as a whole, which is what matters the most.

Use all costume resources

Having as many costumes as possible will help you breathe new life into the movie. Aside from actors, costumes are a great way to immerse your audience into the movie so you should spend extra time into delivering the best possible results. It might definitely take a little while there, but with enough focus and attention to detail everything is possible, just make sure that you do keep this in mind.

Get better equipment

Even if it’s a short movie, the technical stuff will always be important. A higher quality set of cameras and a good set will always bring authenticity and offer quality to the movie, despite of it being short to begin with. So you shouldn’t hesitate to acquire better tools for your movie, as they do pay off quite a lot in the long run.

Embrace the short film art

Yes, creating a short film is an art, it’s all about having a great idea and showing it to the audience. The short films might be different from the longer ones when it comes to their spectrum, but you can still use them to convey emotions and have fun using them. If you like to offer a good experience to your audience then you should totally be open to suggestions and creativity. New camera shots, panning at different times and focusing on the environment can be some very good ideas, just keep them in mind.

Don’t refrain from adding effects

Movies nowadays spend a lot of time in the editing room and the same can be said for the short movies. If your idea and story does require special effects and the budget permits it, you should add these. Also, don’t forget to change the tone and make all the other necessary changes in order to make the experience more natural, appealing and fun to check out!
